James Edward Lake, 73, of Homer, NY, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016.
A long time area resident, Jim was born October 31, 1942 in Cortland, a son of the late Lyndon and Elaine Lake. He was also predeceased by his sister Roxanna (Warren) Forney.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during Vietnam.
Jim retired after twenty-nine dedicated years to the Cortland Police Department. He was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America, and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award and Vigil honor in the Order of the Arrow.
Jim is survived by his two sons, Lyndon Lake of Madrid, NY and Edward (Michelle) Lake of Homer; four grandchildren, Grace (Kent), Corey (Samantha), Collin and Conner; two great-grandchildren Miya and Ronon and one to be born great-grandchild. Also surviving is a nephew, Stephen (Victoria) Forney of California.
Jim’s family especially his grandchildren was his life and enjoyed spending time together.
Funeral services, with Policeman’s Honors, will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 19, 2016 at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., Homer, with Pastor Matthew Smith, Chaplain of the Cortland City Police Department officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, State Rt. 13, Dryden.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.
