Dewayne Glenn Block

Dewayne Glenn Block, 81, of Homer NY was tragically taken from family and friends when his apartment building caught fire early morning Friday, September 2nd.  Born April 7,1935 in Hartwick, NY, Dewayne lived much of his younger life in the Hartwick area. Most of his life was spent working as a carpenter, handyman and contractor. He served a brief time in the Navy in the mid-fifties.  Dewayne also spent several years in Western Massachusetts working as a Caretaker for a summer camp. Dewayne loved working with his hands and found great satisfaction in fixing or rebuilding things. Dewayne was an amazing man, helping whomever, and wherever he was needed.  He was an avid reader and particularly loved historical novels. He also got great pleasure spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Grace Christian Fellowship Church in Cortland, NY.

Dewayne was predeceased by his parents, Waldemar Ludwig Block and Dorothy Romona (Cornwall) Block, his sister, Carolyn Duffy, and a half-brother, Arthur Block.  He is survived by a half-brother, Walter (Barbara) Block of Connecticut and a half-sister, Rachel Stalker of New Hampshire. He is also survived by his four children: Terry (Kathy) Block of Massachusetts, Brian Block of New York, Bruce (Wendy) Block of Florida, and Nicole Block-Adams of Florida and their mother (his ex-wife), Dianne Cardwell Triolo, many grandchildren, one great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

No funeral arrangements have been made at this time.  Interment will be in the Hartwick Cemetery in the Spring. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held in the near future.
