Wayne W. Swindon

Wayne W. Swindon, 76, of Homer, passed away following an extended illness on November 30, 2025.

Wayne was born August 23, 1949 in Syracuse, a son of the late Wilton and Lorraine Parcells Swindon.

He graduated from Syracuse Central Tech High School in 1967 and from the Automotive Training Center at the Spring Garden Institute in Philadelphia, PA.

He served from 1969 – 1979 with the NY Air National Guard’s 174th TFG in Syracuse, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He was employed by the City of Cortland as a wastewater operator for 39 years. Following his retirement, he worked in the customer service department and was a shuttle driver for both Royal Auto and Sun Auto.

Wayne considered every day as a gift. He loved meeting new people, and keeping in touch with his many dear friends.

He was an avid sportsman. He was a member of the NRA, an NRA Certified Firearms instructor and a NYS DEC Master Instructor Sportsman Education.

Wayne was a longtime member of the Preble Congregational Church where he served as Trustee, Diaconate and Sunday School Teacher.

Surviving is his son, Brian W. Swindon (Layla Trombley) of Cortland; daughter-in-law, Marjorie Sanford Swindon of Cortland; his siblings, Deborah, Candy, Melanie, Gary, Gregory, Mark, Jay, Jeffrey, and Scott; brother-in-law, Kenneth Ribble; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Eggleston. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Romi Lee (Chris) Pennello, Gabriel Swindon, Joslyn Phalen and Jenna Phalen; two great grandchildren, Marianna and Dominick Penello.

Wayne had many wonderful and dear friends, especially his friend and caregiver, Kadene Limmer and her family, James Sponaugle, Ronald Masters and Wayne Masters, Stephanie Mattice, Derek Dalola, Tina VanWagenen, Pat Nadge, Deb Thornton, Christina Cutia and his therapy dog, Billy Boy.

Wayne was predeceased by the love of his love of life, and wife of 42 years, Karenlee Ribble Swindon in 2011; his son, Matthew Swindon in 2022 and a sister, Jill.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025 at the Donald L Barber Funeral Home, 5016 U.S. Route 11, Homer. Interment in Glenwood Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.

Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday afternoon from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
