Walter E. Farnholtz, Jr., a resident of Truxton, passed away on August 16, 2024 at the age of 87.
He was born June 26, 1937 in Little Falls, a son of the late Walter and Lucille Congden Farnholtz. Walter graduated from Little Falls High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts and his Juris Doctorate in Law from Syracuse University.
Walter was honorably discharged in 1958 from the US Army, following three years of service.
His life of service included the Phoenix School Board, Elizabeth Brewster House Board of Directors, Rotary, the SUNY Cortland College Board and the New York State Walking Horse Club President.
Mr. Farnholtz was a retired judge and attorney, practicing primarily from the Farnholtz Law Office in Baldwinsville.
Following his retirement, he enjoyed the daily chores of his small farm. He filled his days with dogs, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, skiing, vintage cars and enjoying the woods.
Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Cheryl A. Niles Farnholtz, his children, Walter E. (JoEllen) Farnholtz, III and Cynthia (Craig) Smith, both of Weyers Cave, VA; Jeremy ‘Jake’ (Karen) Gaebler of Cuyler and Melanie Gaebler of Liverpool; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, his sisters, Jessie (Richard) Nagel and Linda Johst.
Walter was predeceased by his son, Charles Farnholtz in 2018 and a grandson, Christopher Farnholtz in 2010.

Funeral services, with Military Honors, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Truxton Christ Church in the Valley, 3670 State Route 13, Truxton.
