Virginia F. Cope

Virginia Cope passed away on May 27, 2024 at Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse following an age-related, medical emergency.

Virginia was predeceased by her parents, Paul Bertocci Ferry and Catherine Ferry, and by her husband of 60 years, Richard P. Cope, Jr.

Surviving are her two daughters, Susan Carl of Auburn and Jacqueline (Paul) Yaman of East Freetown; her brother, Kenneth (Rose) Ferry and their children from Latrobe, PA. Also surviving are Susan's children, Keith (Sandy) Ahart; Kristine Ahart McGee (Joseph); and Kenneth (Linda) Ahart; Jacqueline's children, Joseph Sturges and Sara (Marc) Sturges; her great grandchildren, Dylan (Samantha) Ahart; Michelle Curtis; Richard (Brandy) Curtis and Kenneth Ahart, Jr. as well as six great-great grandchildren, Evan, Adlynn and Maxx Curtis and Carson, Ashton and Duncan Ahart.

Virginia is a member of Grace and Holy Spirit Church where she took great pride in their social outreach, especially Loaves and Fishes.

Preceding her retirement, Virginia was a special education teacher. She had lifelong interests in American history and nature preservation. She volunteered at the Rockland County Historical Society, demonstrating colonial American life activities. She was a member of the Civil War Preservation Society and dedicated many hours to the Girl Scouts of America, where she served as camp director and traveled with teen scouts to scouting events numerous times. In her younger years, Virginia enjoyed hiking, plant identification and bird watching. She enjoyed gardening long into her senior years. She spent many hours reading (avoiding TV and computers) and she took great comfort in her beloved cats.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5th. 2024 at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 U.S. Route 11, Homer.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

Virginia will be laid to rest with her husband in the Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spring Valley, NY on Thursday at 12:00 p.m.
