Thomas R. Huttleston

Thomas R. Huttleston, 81, of Cortland, passed away following an extended illness on January 19, 2026, at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.

A lifelong area resident, Tom was born June 29, 1944, a son of the late Virginia Daines and Kirk Huttleston.

Tom was a union electrician with IBEW Local 43 for many years. His true passion was law enforcement, having served over 55 years collectively with several police departments, including the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department, the Groton Police Department, and more than 20 years with the Homer Police Department.

Outside of his career, Tom enjoyed spending time with family and friends at camp, where he could relax and be outdoors. He loved boating and restoring classic cars and took a keen interest in keeping up with the latest gadgets and technology. He shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Tucker, who brought him constant companionship and could always be found by his side.

Surviving is his longtime companion, Kathy L. Halbig; his three children, Shawn (Douglas) Huttleston of New Mexico, Sheri Natale of Montana, and Scott (Eunkyung) Huttleston of Las Vegas, NV; three grandchildren, Angel Natale and Derrick and Aiyanna Huttleston; and his half-sister, Dawn Brown of Blodgett Mills.

He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Huttleston.

Memorial services will be held Friday, February 6, at 2:00 p.m. at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 U.S. Route 11, Homer, New York. Tom’s longtime friend, Bill Foley, will serve as officiant. A reception will follow at the Homer Legion.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Police Benevolent Association of New York State, Inc. (PBANYS).
