Roy Reynolds Stone passed away August 31, 2024 surrounded by his family after an extended illness.
He was born on April 26, 1948 to Robert and Leona Stone, in Cortland, NY, the youngest of seven siblings.
Roy grew up in Homer and Preble, attending Homer Central School. Afterwards, he worked on the family dairy farm, eventually taking the lead and continued farming through the mid 1990s. Roy took his farming skills and built a successful business as a hoof trimmer for local dairy farms for many years.
In his retirement, Roy spent time sharing his love of farming and gardening. He was an avid outdoorsman, from his early years trapping and hunting with his brothers and friends. In later years, he spent his time making sure his grandkids had the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors by spending time with them in the woods or making hobo meals around the campfire. For the past 61 years, Roy never missed an opening day of deer season. Some of his favorite stories centered around deer season with his friends and family. He was also a lover of animals, raising numerous chickens in his lifetime, and having many special dogs over the years.
Roy touched many people over the years with his easy going personality, a smile and a laugh. To everyone he met, he was known affectionately as “Uncle Roy”, always willing to lend a hand, crack a joke or just make you smile.
Roy’s greatest source of pride was the family he built with his loving wife of 55 years, Cathy. Anyone who knew Roy always understood that family was the most important thing to him.
Roy is survived by his best friend and beloved wife, Cathy; son Todd (Amy) Stone of Homer, and daughters Kimberly (Chad) Butts of Homer and Carrie (Pat) Hoffa of Dolgeville, NY. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Elyse and Evan Butts, Caleigh Stone and Garrett Hoffa. He is also survived by his brothers Pete (Marion) Stone of Homer, John (Kathy) Stone of Preble and sister Judy (John) Wyckoff of Plattsburgh, as well as several nieces and nephews, Lisa, Moe and Mary Cope and The Kline family.
Roy was predeceased by his parents Robert and Leona Stone, sister and brother-in-law Sandra and Raymond Liddington, sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Calvin Griswold, sister Nancy Stone and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marjorie and Roger Soule.
The family would like to thank the many people who helped through this time.
