Rhonda J. Evans, 70, of Cayuga St., Homer, passed away following a brief illness on Friday September 30, 2022 at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse.
A lifelong area resident, Rhonda was born October 14, 1951 the eldest child of John and Frieda Streiff Evans and was a graduate of Tully High School.
Rhonda had most recently been employed at the Preble Hotel. She had also worked as a bartender in the area at several veteran’s clubs, mostly the Cortland VFW and American Legion. She had previously worked as a manager of the OTB in Cortland.
She was currently serving as the president of the Truxton American Legion Auxiliary and was the former president of the Homer American Legion Auxiliary, Cortland VFW Auxiliary and the Cortland County American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a longtime member of the DAR.
Surviving is her loving husband, Paul H. Ellsworth; son, Walter (Joelle) Kopley of Tully; Paul’s son, Jonathan Ellsworth of Cortland; a sister, Phyllis Brame of Georgetown; brother, William Terry of Gilboa, several nieces, nephews, cousins and her beloved gran puppies, Diesel and Dozer.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Elaine Potter and a brother, John Evans.
Memorial services will held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer, NY. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Interment in Tully Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rhonda’s memory may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
