Michael Paul Magee, 79, of Homer, died on Christmas Eve morning, December 24, 2025 surrounded by his loving family at his side after a long hard battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Mike was born on Holy Thursday, April 18, 1946 in Montour Falls, the son of the late Helen Magee.
Mike was a 1964 graduate of Cortland High School and kept in touch with many of his classmates.
In 1965, Mike enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam with the 246th Supply Co. and was honorably discharged in 1968. Upon discharge from the Army, he received the Medal for Merit award for his honorable service in the United States Army.
He was employed for more than 40 years at Cortland Line retiring in 2005. Following his retirement, he worked for several years as a Crossing Guard for the Village of Homer, where he enjoyed seeing the many children in his care on a daily basis.
Mike was a 40+ year member of the Homer Fire Department Triumph Hose Company #1 and later became a life member. He was known to many as “Magoo”. During that time as a member of the Homer fire department, he was the company secretary for Hose #1 for several decades, and Department Secretary for many years. In 2000, Mike received the Patrick Helms Memorial award for his continued dedication and selfless service to the Homer Fire Department. From 2004-2011 he was Lieutenant of the Homer Fire police. For 19 years Mike was the parade chairman for which he loved. On June 10,2022 Mike and Joy were the Grand Marshall’s of the Homer parade watching on their 50th wedding anniversary. A Grand day indeed.
Mike was very involved with the Homer varsity football team assisting Stu Contento on the defensive stats. He loved working with the football teams whether the small fry or the high school. Mike was better known as a statistician of sorts. If you needed to know scores of any type of any sport, just ask Mike, he could tell you who is playing, what the scores were in previous games and he kept very good track of them. Parkinson’s never changed his love of sports. He would continually keep stats and watch all sports games on his TV. For several years he would have a yearly Memorial Day weekend vacation in May to Charlotte, NC with his son to watch the NASCAR races and enjoyed spending time with Connie, Janet and David.
Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Joy Mulcahey Magee; two children, Scott (Beth) Magee of Homer and Stacee Magee (Chris Salisbury) of Statesville, NC; five grandchildren, Zachary (Marc) and Briannna Magee and Aerika, A’den and Atom Salisbury. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Dorothy Mulcahey; sister-in-law, Nancy Condolora (Nick); his brother-in-law, Dale Mulcahey (Nancy); and his best friend, Roger (Marie) McMillen of New Hampshire.
Mike was predeceased by his mother, Helen Magee; his father-in-law, William Mulcahey; and his beloved furry dog, Scruffy.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Cedar Run Guthrie RCF especially Annette and Becky for their love and care for Mike over last 4 years. Mike was better known to them as quick witted, matter of fact and gentle all at the same time.
