Mary Lou Whitaker

Mary Lou Whitaker, 68, of Venette St., Cortland, died on Monday, December 12, 2016 in St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, following an extended illness.

A longtime resident of the Cortland/Homer area, she was born July 6, 1948 in Elmira, a daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth Haese Mottoff.

Mary Lou was a 43-year employee as the Lab Supervisor of the Cortland Regional Medical Center. She was very passionate about her patients and was admired by her peers. 

She had served on board of the American Association of Blood Banks and had attended many of the AABB seminars and conferences.  She was also affiliated with many Transfusion Services Professional Organizations. 

Mary Lou enjoyed her many trips to the Thousand Islands, spending time with her family and especially loved her dogs. 

She is survived by her three daughters, Danielle Whitaker (Jason) of Chalfont, PA; Deanna (Timothy) Daley of Homer; Desiree (Jaime) Morgan of Williamson, NY; a brother, Bert (Judy) Haese of Little York and seven loving grandchildren, Christopher; Ashley; Josh; Alan; Timmy; Brianna and Madison as well as two nieces, Tina and Lisa and their families.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 North Main St., Homer, with Pastor Maggie Stevens officiating.

Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.
