Mary McEvoy Watson, 92, formerly of 87 Cayuga Street, Homer, passed away on September 14, 2022 following a lengthy illness.
She was born January 16, 1930 in Preble, NY, a daughter of the late George and Helen Kane McEvoy. Mary graduated from Homer Central School in 1947, she attended Hobart and William Smith college for 2 years and graduated from the Rochester Business Institute in 1950.
Mary and her husband owned and operated Bernie's Variety Store on Route 281 in Homer from 1963 to 1981. She had also worked at Gordon's Drugs and Kinney’s Drugs in Cortland retiring in 2009.
Surviving are her five children, Helen and David Kostizak of Penfield, NY; Catherine and Thomas McGivern of Johnstown, NY; Nancy Watson-Duffy and John Duffy of Williamsville, NY; William and Pamela Watson of San Antonio, TX; and Amy and John Czarkowski of King of Prussia, PA; her grandchildren, Michael and Matthew McGivern; Taylor and Keely Watson and Elizabeth and Joseph Czarkowski; her twin sister; Marcella Lonergan of Syracuse, NY; sister, Velma and P. William Lindberg of Fayetteville, NY; sister-in-law, Beatrice O'Connell of New Brighton MN; brother-in-law, Bruce Bowler of Lady Lake, FL. Also surviving are twenty-two nieces and nephews, extended family members and many dear friends.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, Bernard G. Watson in 1999; her mother and father-in-law, Mary and C. Grant Watson; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Caroline McEvoy; her sister, Katherine McEvoy; sister-in-law, Lucy Bowler; brothers-in-law, Paul Lonergan and John O’Connell and a nephew, Patrick McEvoy.
Calling hours will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2022 at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer, NY.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, 14 Copeland Ave., Homer. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer. The funeral will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/donaldlbarberfuneralhome.
