Marjorie Joan Banks

Marjorie Joan Banks, 74, of Cortland, passed on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, after her 25-year journey with cancer ended while under the care of Hospice and her loving family.  Her strength, determination and faith were an inspiration to many.

Marjorie was born March 3, 1945 in Taylor, a daughter of the late Henry and Maggie Fox Raymond. She was a 33 year resident of Nixon Ave., Homer, NY where she raised her family.  She worked as the personal housekeeper to the Gutchess Family for 20 years and also worked in the lunch room at Cortland Christian Academy for another several years. She was a devout member of Bible Baptist Church in Cortland since 1980 where through the years she was involved in many of the church’s activities.

Surviving is her husband of 53 years, Lawrence O. Banks, Sr; her children, Corey (Nancy) Banks; Denise (Scott) Robertson; Lawrence (Maureen) Banks, Jr.; Jacqueline (Mark) Armstrong; and Valerie (Judy) Banks; her grandchildren, Zachariah, Heidi, Lyndsey, Anna, Silas, Taylor, Satchel, Gina, Rachele, Nicholas, Matthew and Adam. Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Rowan, Finnley, Owen, Dylan, Simon, Keara, Cailyn, Nathan, Isabella, Jeremiah, Mason and Adam, II; two brothers, Peter Raymond and Lee (Mary) Raymond; sisters-in-law, Kathy and Sue Raymond; her brother-in-law, Bob Burns; a special niece, Susan Horner and many other wonderful nieces and nephews.

Marjorie was predeceased by a grandson, Eli Banks; her siblings, Frederick Raymond, Ada Raymond, Francis “Gil” Raymond, Margaret Burns and Irving Raymond.

A Celebration of Life service will be held promptly at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Bible Baptist Church, 15 West Rd., Cortland. The family will greet friends and relatives following the service, at the church from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.
