Margaret Joann Neuman

Margaret Joann Neuman, 88, of Route 11, Homer, passed away on May 16, 2024, at home while under the care of her loving family.

A lifelong area resident, she was born November 13, 1935 in Cortland, a daughter of the late Robert and Margaret Call Briggs.

Joann was employed for more than 25 years at the Cortland Memorial Hospital, primarily as a secretary.

She was a faithful and active communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Cortland. In her spare time, she was very talented at various crafts such as crocheting, knitting, sewing, and gardening. She thoroughly enjoyed keeping up with her great grandchildren who kept her young at heart.

Joann is survived by her children, Connie (Craig) Biviano of Homer; Rick (Martha) Neuman of Vestal and Theresa Neuman of Homer; her grandchildren, Ken (Mimi) Stage; Kelly (Jeromy) Bushey; Sarah (Matt) Button; Kaitlyn (Adam) Gordon and Kiersten (Josh) McMahon. Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Carson; Nolan; Bryer; Everleigh; Reagan and Gunnar and many other extended family members.

She was predeceased by her two daughters, Cathy (Jack) Stage and Margaret ‘Peggy’ Neuman; a grandson, Phillip ‘PJ’ Miller and a brother, Robert ‘Buddy’ Briggs.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Church, 46 N. Main St., Cortland.

Interment in St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery, 623 Franklin St, Elmira, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joann’s memory may be directed to St. Mary’s Church.
