Laura S. Gage, of Cayuga St., Homer, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2020 at the age of 101.
A lifelong area resident, Laura was born January 22, 1919 in Marathon, a daughter of the late Ezra and L. Sylvania Weiser Carter.
She worked for several years at Wilson’s Sporting Goods in Cortland. Following her retirement Laura and her late husband, Leon Gage, enjoyed wintering in Florida.
Surviving is a daughter, Stella Johnson of Lakeside, OR; two stepdaughters, Vada Dular of Ohio and Susie (J.T.) Means of Georgia; six granddaughters, six grandsons, several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Laura was predeceased by two sons, Jeff Betz in 1945 and William Betz in 1992; her husbands; George Babcock in 1956, William Betz in 1956 and Leon Gage in 2000 as well as a brother, Lawrence Carter.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Cortland Rural Cemetery, 110 Tompkins St., Cortland.
Calling hours will be held at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer, on Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. We will be following NY State COVID-19 Guidelines. Masks must be worn at all times; social distancing practices will also be in place. During the funeral home visitation only a certain number of visitors will be allowed in the funeral home chapel at a time, so please be patient and prepared to wait outside.
