Larry Janack Obituary

Larry E. Janack, 66, of James St., Homer, passed away on November 2, 2020 at the Syracuse VA Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

Larry was born September 12, 1954 in Ogdensburg, NY, a son of the late Edison and Grace Lennox Janack. He was a 1972 graduate of Homer High School and obtained his B.A. from Roger Williams University and his M.A. in communication from City University.

He faithfully served in the United States Army from 1972 – 1980 and from 1985-1988, with the 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles). He also served 13 years in the National Guard following his honorary discharge from the Army.

Larry was a former deputy for the Cortland County Sheriff's Department. For 18 years, he worked as a Corrections Officer at the Jamesville Correctional Facility, retiring in 2005.

Surviving is his wife of 35 years, Carmen A. Ramos Janack; his four children, Aimee J. (Scott) Underwood of Homer; Jennifer S. Janack (Craig Allen) of Truxton; Kelly M. (Curtis) LaBouf of Canandaigua; and Jonathan E Janack of Clermont FL; nine grandchildren; his siblings, Rose Bellefleur of Alabama; Nancy Malison of Homer; Lisa Fowler (Roger West) of Scott; and Jeffrey Janack of Syracuse; step-siblings, Archie, Allan, Nancy and Michael as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Christy Lynn Janack in n 1989; his brother, Terry Janack and his step-father, Gilbert Fisher.

The family will be present to receive friends for calling hours from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer, NY.

We will be following NY State COVID-19 Guidelines. Masks must be worn at all times; social distancing practices will also be in place. During the funeral home visitation only a certain number of visitors will be allowed in the funeral home chapel at a time, so please be patient and prepared to wait outside.

Funeral services, with Military Honors, will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Larry’s name be sent to the Cortland DAV, 91 Owego St., Cortland, NY 13045 or the American Cancer Society, 110 Lomond Ct., Utica, NY 13502.
