Joseph Paul Simon

Joseph Paul Simon, 89, of Preble, NY passed away after a brief illness on July 28, 2022, at Guthrie Hospital in Cortland, NY.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, from 2PM to 4PM at the Donald L Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer. Services will be held at St Leo's Catholic Church in Tully, NY at 10 AM on Thursday, August 4, 2022.

Joe was born on May 1, 1933, in Cortland, NY to John Paul and Lillian (Call) Simon. Joe was a dairy and cabbage farmer all his life, running Simon Farms on Simon Road in Preble, NY. Joe starting farming with his father and has spent the past 50 years running the farm with his nephew, Joseph L Pitman.

Joe was a life member of the Preble Fire Department and the Preble Milk Cooperative and played on several Preble Softball Teams when he was younger.

Joe was predeceased by his parents, John (1982) and Lillian (1988); his brother, William "Bill" Simon (1966); and his sister, Jane (Simon) Maher (2014).

Joe is survived by his two sisters, Betty Ann Pitman of Preble, and Babe (Henry) Carroll of Preble; nephews John (Carol) Simon, Paul (Bonnie) Maher, Joseph Pitman, Thomas (Wendy) Pitman, James Pitman, David (Bonnie) Pitman, and Robert (Michelle) Pitman; nieces Carol (Russell Day) Maher, Katherine (John) Touchette, and Theresa Pitman; and numerous great nephews, great nieces, and a large extended family.

Donations in Joe's honor may be sent to St Leo's Catholic Church, 10 Onondaga Street, Tully, NY.

"Big Joe" will be missed by all.
