John E. Truex, 77, passed away on June 28, 2025.
John grew up in Auburn and later attended SUNY Cortland, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Education. During his college years, he formed many lifelong friendships that he cherished throughout his life.
Following graduation, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served honorably before returning to civilian life. He went on to work as an elementary school teacher while also co-owning the Lido Restaurant, a role he held for many years with pride and dedication.
He loved to spend time with his wife Christine and his sons, Mark and Alan.
John had a deep love for golf and spent countless days on the course with his sons and close friends. He was also an avid reader with a particular interest in history and ancient Egypt, and he enjoyed collecting ancient coins as a hobby.
Surviving is his two sons, Mark (Diane) Truex of Cortland and Alan (Erin) Truex of Syracuse; his grandchildren, Nolan, T.J., Kate and Owen Truex, siblings, Gary (Cindy) Truex of Minnesota, Linda (Joseph) Demleim of Auburn, NY and Kevin (Debbie) Truex of Port Byron, NY as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
John was predeceased by his wife, Christine Niederhofer Truex in 2024.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025 at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 U.S. Route 11, Homer.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 11a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Truex’s name may be directed to the charity of one's choice.
