Chuck Yaekel, 75, of Homer NY, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026 surrounded by family in the comfort of home.
Born on March 24, 1950 in Albany, to Charles and Patricia Yaekel. Chuck grew up in Margaretville, NY, with a passion for the outdoors. After graduating from college, he went on to become an Environmental Conservation Officer for NYSDEC, retiring as Lieutenant.
Known for his quick wit, sportsman skills, and stubborn determination, Chuck spent much of his life enjoying the outdoors, hunting and fishing, snowmobiles, motorcycles, fast cars, and protecting the environment, passing his knowledge on to his children and grandchildren.
Chuck’s legacy lives on through his children, Jason Yaekel and Kristin Negley; his siblings, Steve Yaekel, Jim Yaekel, and Susan Sherwood; along with his grandchildren, Isaac and Olivia Negley.
He was preceded in death by parents, Charles and Patricia.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Donald L Barber Funeral Home, 5016 U.S. Route 11, Homer.
A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Yaekel’s name may be directed to the Hospice Foundation of Cortland, 11 Kennedy Parkway, Cortland, NY 13045.
