Evelyn Marie (Frost) VanLiew

Evelyn Marie (Frost) VanLiew, 89, of Homer, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 4, 2025.

A lifelong area resident, she was born May 5, 1936, a daughter of the late Fred and Frieda May Frost. Having attended eight different school systems as a child, she often said that it gave her the opportunity to meet people from all over and was very appreciative of that.

Known for her outgoing personality, sense of humor and quick wit, Evelyn enjoyed the simple things in life- spending time with her family, meeting and conversing with anyone who would lend an ear. Following the death of her husband Donald in 1967, Evelyn continued to raise her four children ages one to eight years old independently without complaint. Evelyn was very proud of her family's accomplishments, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved to share that information. She enjoyed a car ride on a beautiful summer day which usually concluded with a stop at Bob's Barbeque, or an ice cream stand.

Surviving are her four children, Rick (Jerry) VanLiew of Cortland; Terry VanLiew of Homer; Cynthia (Mark) Randolph of Bradenton, FL; and Victoria (Vern) LaFavor of Cortland; her siblings, Sharon (Richard) Tibbits; Debbie Andrews; Gary (Laura) Frost; Gene (Jane) Frost; Earl (Mary Jo) Frost. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Sarah VanLiew (Darrin Osborne); Tacie VanLiew (Todd Jensen); Brent (Jessica) VanLiew; Zachary (Alyssa) VanLiew; Lindsay (A.J.) Meldrim; Jake VanLiew; Ashleigh (Matt) Schulman; Blake (Carie) Randolph; Jacqlynn (Jessica) Martin; Erik LaFavor; Racheal LaFavor and Clarissa (Phil) Mack. Her great grandchildren, Riley VanLiew; Deacon Osborne; Henry VanLiew; Mary and Tully Meldrim; Jenna and Eva Schulman; and Elijah and Rowan Mack.

Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Donald VanLiew in 1967; her longtime companion, Chester Beardsley in 2021 and her siblings, Connie Reynolds; Linda Cole; Joyce Tyrrell; Roland Frost and Raymond Frost.

In keeping with Mrs. VanLiew’s wishes, services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
