Ellen Mae Cowburn, 91, of East Homer, went to be to be with her Lord on February 23, 2025.
Ellen was born December 22, 1933 in Marcellus, to Clarence and Pauline Godfrey.
Ellen worked for many years as a bookkeeper for the Grandway. When they closed, she worked for Cortland bulk.
Ellen's main focus in her life was her family. Her memory will be cherished by the entire family. Her favorite pastimes were bingo and playing cards with her friends. There are not enough words to express how grateful and blessed we all are that she lived in such a caring community.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in East Homer, and a 50-year member in good standing with the Eastern star.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Margaret Cowburn; her grandchildren, Robert “Robbie” (Samantha) Cowburn; Christine (Rob) Dressman and Zachary Cowburn, all of Pittsburgh, PA. Her memory lives on with her three great-grandchildren, Rebel, Winifred and Lainey. Ellen is also survived by her brother, John (Linda) Godfrey; sister, Sharon (John) Konrad, both of The Villages, FL; sisters, Roxanne Godfrey and Carolyn Klein, both of Minoa; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Robert Cowburn; her son, Scott Cowburn and a sister; Shirley.
A prayer service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 U.S. Route 11.
Ellen's family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners, will be delayed until spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ellen's name may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the East Homer United Methodist Church, 2662 State Route 13, Cortland, NY 13045.
