David W. Moreland

David Moreland, 70, passed away on August 22, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family after a full day of seeing and hearing from friends and family from around the world.    

David graduated from Mynderse Academy High School in Seneca Falls in 1970. He graduated from Auburn Community College in 1972 and SUNY Cortland in 1975. He also attended RIT in Rochester. David played football, baseball, lacrosse and wrestled during high school and college. He enjoyed coaching both Little League Baseball and Softball in Homer.  

David worked as a machinist at both Smith Corona and Pall Trinity for over 30 years. He also was a substitute teacher at the Homer and Layfette School Districts.  

David was a member of the Homer Elks Club, and an SAL Member at the Homer American Legion. He was a volunteer at the Center for the Arts and enjoyed his once-a-month card games with his buddies.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and loved camping especially in South Freeport, Maine.  The thing he enjoyed most of all was spending time with his grandchildren attending their many activities.

David is survived by his daughters, Kristin Moreland of East Hartford, CT; Melissa (Miguel) Moreland Campos of Homer; two grandchildren, Jonah Collier Campos, and Nina Maria Campos of Homer. He has one brother, John (Peggy) Moreland of Fairport, NY; two sisters, Margaret Moreland of Seneca Falls; and Carol Locke of Fairport and a good friend Diana Moreland of Homer. He has several beloved nieces and nephews and exchange students from around the world.    

David is predeceased by his father John Frances Moreland and his mother Julia Mae Sanderson Moreland of Seneca Fall.

The family invites friends and family to Melissa’s home at 53 Cayuga Street, Homer for a brownie and ice cream celebration of life on Wednesday at 2:00PM.
