David M. Browngardt, 73, of Port Watson St., Cortland, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
A lifelong area resident, David was born February 12, 1952 in DeRuyter, the son of Martin and Jean DeGraff Browngardt. While attending DeRuyter Central School he played soccer, basketball and baseball. After high school, he attended SUNY Delhi.
David was employed for many years as a truck driver for AGWAY in DeRuyter and then worked in construction. He served on the DeRuyter Central School Board and enjoyed bowling, softball, golfing and camping in his free time. He could always be found on the sidelines or in the stands of his children’s sports games.
Surviving is his mother, Jean Browngardt; his children, Michael D. (Michelle) Browngardt of Cortland and Heather M. Browngardt of DeRuyter; their mother, Kathleen Browngardt of DeRuyter; three grandchildren, Connor Browngardt and Christian and Layla Marshall; siblings, Mary (Lyn) Jordan of Cincinnatus and Kevin (Barbara) Browngardt of Myrtle Beach, SC; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his father, Martin Browngardt, he was predeceased by a sister, Judy Browngardt in 2024.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at the Woodford-Burdick Post 894 American Legion of DeRuyter, 1649 Seminary Street, DeRuyter, New York 13052.
Memorial contributions may be made in David’s name to the DeRuyter Central School District Sports Booster Club, 711 Railroad Street, DeRuyter, NY 13052.
