Darwin Johnson Obituary

On March 15, Darwin Johnson Passed away at 80 years old, at his home in Edgewater, Florida. Darwin was the fifth son of Mary and Hjalmar Johnson. He was born in Bismarck, North Dakota and grew up in Everett, Washington.

He was a veteran of the US Army, having served in various stateside pots and ultimately in Mannheim, Germany. After his honorable discharge in November 1963, he settled in Homer, NY.

Darwin was employed by E.O. Edwards in Syracuse and the Cortland Smith Corona. He was the proprietor of two Texaco service stations before partnering with the later Gary Moore forming Moore-Johnson construction and later with Alan Goodale and Lee Hughes farming Aleewin Construction company. He also was an independent contractor in Port Orange, New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater, Florida. He was a charter member of the 7 Valley Street Rods association. Darwin was also a member of several fraternal organizations of different times in his life.

Darwin is survived by his wife, Laura of 58 years in Homer, his sister and husband Yvonne and Bruce Bryant of Everett and a brother and his wife, Hjalmar and Patricia Johnson of Pasco, Washington and many nieces and nephews and a cousin and wife Jacob and Mary Anne Hagel of Bismarck.

Darwin had a great number of loving cousins by marriage in this area and in Pennsylvania, Florida, Tennessee and Ohio and dear, dear friends in Cortland, especially Joe Rongo.

He is also survived by Jean Fisher, Eric and Vaughn Frickie of Edgewater whom he considered family of the heart.

Graveside services will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2022 in Atwater Cemetery, Route 41, Homer.
