Dale P. Halstead, of River St., Homer, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2020 at Loretto Health and Rehabilitation Center, Syracuse, at the age of 85.
A lifelong area resident, Dale was born February 26, 1935, a son of Perry and Dora Moore Halstead.
He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1957.
Dale had been employed at Wilson Sporting Goods but was better known as a well-respected auto mechanic, owning and operating Dale’s Repair Shop for several years.
He was a former member at Homer Baptist Church, where for many years he was a leader of the Christian Service Brigade. More recently he was an active member of the Homer Congregational Church. Dale was a member of the Cortland YWCA and was very active and enjoyed spending time at the Homer Senior Center.
Surviving is his wife of 10 years, Sylvia Hammond; a son, Timothy (Karen) Halstead; Sylvia’s children, Deborah Guard (Ted); Patricia (Chandler) Ede; Timothy (Ann) Seymour; Richard Seymour; and Michael (Vada) Seymour; two grandchildren, Kate and Nathaniel Halstead; many step-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille (Martin) Eaton; several extended family members who will miss him dearly and many, many dear friends.
Dale was predeceased by first wife of 50 years, Jennie Halstead; a brother, Donald Halstead and a sister, Laverna Fralick.
Due to the current restrictions in place for the COVID-19, immediate services for Dale will be held at the convenience of the family. A public memorial, with Air Force honors, will be announced at a later date.
