Christine Niederhofer Truex, of Cortland, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024 while under the care of her loving family at the age of 72.
A lifelong area resident, she was born July 9, 1951, a daughter of the late Carlton ‘Dutch’ and Patricia Cotter Niederhofer.
Upon her graduation from SUNY Brockport, Christine was a schoolteacher for several years before becoming a stay-at-home mom, devoting her life to raising her children and taking care of her family. Later she would work for many years at Patchwork and Pies Quilt Shop.
Christine was an avid quilter and had been active at St. Mary’s Church for a number of years. Her greatest joy came from taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving is her husband, John E. Truex; two sons, Mark (Diane) Truex of Cortland and Alan (Erin) Truex of Syracuse; her grandchildren, Nolan, T.J., Kate and Owen Truex and her siblings, Nancy (Joseph) Cowan of Webster; Janis (Mark) Hartnett of Tully; Carla Niederhofer of Boston, MA; Joseph Niederhofer of Homer and Nancy Ryan (Don Arnoldy) of Santa Clara, CA as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, John Niederhofer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024 in St. Mary’s Church, Cortland. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Cortland.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer.
