Charles Duane Alexander 78, of Stockton, California passed away on September 27, 2024 as a result of complications from a recent stroke.
Charles was born in Cortland on March 11, 1946 to Charles June Alexander and Margery Blanden Alexander. He was a member of the McGraw Central School class of 1964, the Cornell University class of 1968, having spent a year studying in New Zealand, and following a term of service with the International Voluntary Service in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, modernly known as Zaire, thereafter earned his Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics at the East-West Center of the University of Hawaii in 1974.
It was at the University of Hawaii that Charles met and married the love of his life, artist Pamela Murakami, who survives him, along with their son Nicholas Alexander, daughter-in-law Dee Alexander and grandson Montgomery Alexander.
Charles and Pamela traveled and worked internationally; most notably with the Bank of America in the Philippines before settling down in California. Charles utilized his banking experience and connections to transition into Real Estate development, where he built luxury homes for J. Lohr Properties, located in Pebble Beach, CA before breaking off to start his own construction business. After retirement, Charles continued to keep himself busy by utilizing his woodworking skills to refurbish and repair antique furniture.
Charles is additionally survived by his brothers, Loren (Dorothy) Alexander and David (Carol) Alexander, along with several nieces and grandnieces, nephews and grandnephews, aunts, cousins and lifelong friends.
In life, Charles' primary interests were deeply rooted in history, genealogy, arts, culture, travel, geography and politics. His knowledge, wisdom, and opinions on all topics will be missed by those who were close to him. Private life and memorial celebrations will be held at the convenience of his family.
