Calvin 'Jim' Griswold

Calvin N. ‘Jim’ Griswold, of Preble, passed away surrounded by his family on December 11, 2018 following a period of declining health at the age of 92.

A lifelong resident of Preble, he was born January 1, 1926, a son of the late Earl and Clara Root Griswold.

Jim truly loved the Preble community. He served fifteen years as the Preble Town Justice and was a 71- year member of the Preble Fire Department.

Jim retired, after 25 years of service, from the NYS Department of Transportation and had previously been employed by the Town of Preble Highway Department.

Surviving is his loving and wife of 61 years, Patricia J. Stone Griswold; his four children, Peggie (Ed) Miller of Cortland; James (Teena) Griswold Preble; Jeffrey (Heather) Griswold of Preble and Joseph (Monika) Griswold of Germany; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jim was predeceased by his daughter, Renee C. Griswold in 2005 and his siblings, Everett, Dana, Hubert and Bernice.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2018 at St. Margaret Catholic Church, 14 Copeland Ave., Homer, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Paul J. Alciati.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 Route 11, Homer.
