Beverly J. Silvino Vaber, 89, formerly of East River Rd., Homer, passed away on April 23, 2024.
A lifelong area resident, she was born July 22, 1934, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Doris Lohman Silvino.
Bev worked at NY Telephone for several years and after raising her children, worked as the secretary at St. Margaret’s Church, Homer, where she was active in several of the church’s ministries.
She and her late husband, James Vaber, would often be seen in the Homer and Cortland area riding their tandem bicycle, logging more than 5,000 miles a year. They would cross-country ski in Bear Swamp and often brought the grandchildren. Every year, they would bring all the grandchildren for a week-long camping adventure to Watkins Glen or Letchworth State Park. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with her family. While on Copeland Ave in Homer, they hosted a neighborhood picnic in their expansive yard.
Surviving is her son, Douglas Vaber of Homer; sister, Laura Wright and several loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Beverly was predeceased by her husband, James A. Vaber in 2018; her son, Jeffrey Vaber in 2010 and a brother, Philip Silvino.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024 in St. Margaret’s Church, 14 Copeland Ave. Homer, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
The family will receive friends and relatives immediately following Mass in the basement of the church, where a luncheon will be provided by St. Margaret’s.
Thank you to the Brewster House for the amazing care given to Bev over the past several years.
