Barbara S. Hale

Barbara S. Hale, formerly of Locust Ave., Cortland, passed away on August 31, 2019 at the age of 88.

A lifelong area resident, she was born April 1, 1931, a daughter of the late William and Margaret Letts Sears. Barbara was a 1948 graduate of Homer High School.

Mrs. Hale was employed for more than 30 years as the secretary to the superintendent of the Homer Central School District, retiring in 1989.

Barbara was an active member for many years at the Homer Congregation Church. She enjoyed volunteering at the Cortland Senior Citizens, reading, puzzles and BINGO.

She also loved to travel, visiting much of Canada, Europe, Australia and most every state in the United States.

Surviving is her loving husband of 68 years, Robert E. Hale; a son, Joseph R. (Michelle) Hale of Cortland; two grandchildren, Rachael Hale Croft of Cortland and Gregory (Kylee) Hale of Unadilla; and four great grandchildren, Cattalyna, Isabella, Matthew and Megan.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Nan Hale and a grandson, Matthew Hale.

In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. Interment in Atwater Cemetery, Homer, will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Hale’s name may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
