Arland E. Berlew, 88, of Grout Brook Road, Homer, passed away Friday, September 19, 2025, following a period of declining health.
He was born April 20, 1937, a son of the late Henry and Helen Parker Berlew.
Arland was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, with the rank of Sergeant.
In 1958, Arland established and operated Forest Fisheries in Homer. For nearly 50 years, Arland and his wife, Sharon Purcell Berlew, sold boats, bait and Christmas trees.
He attended New Hope Church where he often volunteered for many of the church’s social functions. He was a member of the Homer Lions Club, enjoying the comradery of fellow members, especially at the Chicken BBQ’s.
He loved to hunt and fish, also he and Sharon enjoyed traveling from Maine to Hawaii and they spent many winters at their home in Florida.
Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Sharon Berlew; his siblings, Carl Berlew (Beverly Berry) of Cortland; Edwin (Karen) Berlew of Brockport; Arlene Mack of Pottsville, PA; a brother-in-law, Dick Rood of Devon, PA and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Romaine Rood.
Graveside services, with Military Honors, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025 at Cortland Rural Cemetery, 110 Tompkins Street, Cortland.
