Sheila A. Lansdowne

Sheila A. Lansdowne, 71, of 124 Port Watson St., Cortland, passed away under the care of Hospice and her family on Tuesday, August 22, 2017.

She was born November 8, 1945 in New Albany, PA, a daughter of the late Fred and Pauline Perkins Ayres.

Sheila retired in 2014 from the Cortland Regional Medical Center, where she was employed in the Food Service Dept. for 14 years. She had previously been employed the Cortland Care Center and Smith Corona.

Sheila had been a member of the Groton Eastern Stars and through the years enjoyed bowling, doing puzzles and horseback riding.

Surviving are her two sons, Todd Dawson (Dianne Seaman) of Homer and Dale Dawson (Heather Brown) of Cortland; her loving granddaughter, Claudia Dawson of Cortland; siblings, Ed (Hilda) Ayres of Locke; Maryline Cernigila of Kissimmee, FL; Bob (Sharon) Ayres of Ashley, ND; Bill (Barb) Ayres of Groton; Gary Ayres of Cortland and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her first husband, David D. Dawson in 1986; her second husband, Marvin F. “Whimp” Lansdowne, Sr. in 2004; her son, Richard E. Dawson in 2007 and two brothers, Howard and Harold “Pete” Ayres.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2017 at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer, with Mr. Tony Goddard officiating. Interment will follow Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

A celebration of Sheila’s life will follow the interment at the Burns-McCauliffe Post 465 American Legion of Homer, 63 S. Main St., Homer from 2:00-5:00 p.m..  

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Lansdowne’s name may be directed to the Hospice Foundation of Cortland, 11 Kennedy Parkway, Cortland, NY 13045.
