Russell J. Falter, of Highland Rd., Cortland, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, September 30, 2019 at the age of 76.
A lifelong area resident, Russ was born on May 10, 1943, a son of the late Charles and Gladys Pall McCandless.
He was employed for many years at Smith Corona and retired from the Cortland County Nutritional Program, where he was employed as a cook.
Russ was a longtime member of the Homer Lodge #2506 BPOE. He was a big fan of Tiger Woods and SU basketball, but his pride and joy was tending to his beautifully landscaped lawn.
Surviving is his wife, Linda E. Braun Falter; children, Marjorie Falter (Rich), Russell Falter (Kathy), Michael Lucas, Andrew Lucas (Tammy), Timothy Lucas (Katie), Marsha Lucas Novak (Steven), David Lucas (Lindsay), John Sackett (Jenna), Jason Sackett (Teri), BillieJo Sackett Hawn (Bradley). Also surviving are several loving grandchildren and a great grandchild on the way; a sister, Denise (Daniel) Covich; his brother, Bill (Donna) McCandless as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Russ was predeceased by a son, Pfc. Shawn Falter; a daughter, Cynthia Leonard; two grandchildren, James and Jessica Leonard; a sister, Julia Falter and two brothers; Keith and Chuck McCandless.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 12:00 – 3:00PM at the Homer Elks Lodge, 82 Cortland St., Homer. The Elks Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 2:45PM
