John A. Stevens, Sr., 84, formerly of Preble, went home to be with his loving wife, Hilda, on Friday, March 9, 2018.
A lifelong area resident, John was born January 1, 1934 in Cortland.
He was retired from Carrier Corp., Syracuse after 34 years of employment.
John was an avid wood worker, enjoyed collecting knives, Hess trucks, old fishing tackle and loved his Dallas Cowboys.
He was a longtime and faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Preble.
Surviving are his children, John (Elisie) Stevens, Jr. of St. Mary’s, PA and Debra (Philip) Youmans of Montrose, PA; and John (Laurie) Miller of Cortland; son-in-law, Leonard (Tammy) Moore of Homer; grandchildren, Connie (Tim) Stevens of Cortland; Leonard Moore, Jr. (Elicia Fuller) of Marathon and Kerrie Moore of Enfield; as well as several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
John was predeceased by his wife, Hilda M. Stevens on November 4, 2017; two daughters, Vera Moore and Viola Delaney; two sons, Roy and Jim Miller and a great grandson, John Hartwick.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church, 6753 State Route 281, Preble, with Pastor Tim Mowers officiating. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery, Preble will be at the convenience of the family.
Calling hours will be held at the church on Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service.
