Donald K. Cooper, 81, of South Lamont Drive, Cortland, passed away on July 25, 2019 following a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He had been a resident in memory care at Walden Place since December 2018.
Don was born July 30, 1937 in Cortland, a son of the late Harry A. and Bernice G. Reynolds Cooper.
Mr. Cooper was honorably discharged from the US Air Force in 1963, following eight years of faithful service to his country.
He retired from Swarthout Coaches, Ithaca, where he was employed for more than 25 years as a charter bus driver.
Don was a member of the Cortland City Post #489 American Legion. He was an avid golfer and NASCAR fan, having attended more than 150 NASCAR races. He was also an avid SU basketball fan and enjoyed working around his home landscaping, remodeling and woodworking.
Surviving is his wife of 14 years, Linda L. Knapp Cooper; four children, Michael Cooper; Cherisse (Scott) Hall, James Cooper and Laura Cooper, all of Delaware, OH. Also surviving is his brother, Lauren “Lum” (Heidi) Cooper of Cortland; six grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his twin-sister, Dawn Austin in 2012.
Funeral services, with Air Force honors, will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2019 at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral.
