Deborah Sponaugle Obituary

Deborah A. Sponaugle, 68, of Morningside Dr., Cortland, passed away on November 25, 2019 while under the care of Hospice and her loving family.

A longtime area resident, she was born March 15, 1951 in Watertown, a daughter of the late George and Bernice Lowe Houghton.

Deb was most recently employed as a Teacher’s Aide at Homer Elementary School. She had worked as a teacher at the YMCA Kindercare and had also been a secretary at Cortland Memorial Hospital, in the emergency room and operating room.

Deb loved to read and was a member of the Belles-Lettres Book Club. She also enjoyed traveling with her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving is her husband of 38 years, James D. Sponaugle; three children, Amanda Bishop of Cortland, Kory (Ashley) Sponaugle of Camillus, and Jamison (Keri) Sponaugle of Homer; loving grandchildren, Aiden, Emma, Elias, Wyatt, and a new arrival coming next summer. Also surviving are her siblings, George (Ingrid) Houghton of Skaneateles, Tina (Kenn) Ward of Auburn, and Dwyane Houghton of Marcellus as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her in-laws, Betty and Dorr Sponaugle of Cortland.

In keeping with Deborah’s wishes, there will be no services.
