Carl L. Hulbert

December 14, 1936 ~ February 27, 2019 (age 82)

Carl L. Hulbert, 82, of Cortland, passed away unexpectedly on February 27, 2019.

Carl was born December 14, 1936, a son of the late Ivan and Jane Vandermark Hulbert.

An important time in Carl’s life was his service, from 1954-1958, in the U.S. Air Force. He was proud of his time spent as a mechanic in Germany. He enjoyed telling his “Germany” stories over the years to his family, friends or anyone who would listen.

Carl was a hardworking man who enjoyed the simple things in life. Having coffee with Evelyn or his buddies, mowing the lawn at church, helping neighbors with projects and working on his own rental properties.

Carl owned and operated Harmon Ave. Plumbing and Heating for many years.

A lifelong and faithful Christian, he was an active member of Grace Christian Fellowship Church. Carl enjoyed two church mission trips to Alaska over the years, offering his expertise in the building of schools and churches.

Surviving is his loving wife of more than 50 years, Evelyn L. Homer Hulbert, currently residing at the Elizabeth Brewster House, Homer; a daughter, Billi Carol (John) Gizzi of Homer; two grandchildren, Angela and Christopher Gizzi and two sisters, Margaret Sackett and Caroline Anderson as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, William R. Hulbert in 2012 and two sons, Shel and Scott Hulbert.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Grace Christian Fellowship, 1250 Fisher Ave., Cortland, NY.

Those wishing to remember Carl in lieu of flowers may make a donation to Grace Christian Fellowship, 1250 Fisher Ave., Cortland NY 13045 or the National Hemophilia Foundation, ATTN: Development Department, 7 Penn Plaza, Suite 1204, New York, NY 10001.

Carl’s family would like to acknowledge and thank his neighbors with who he had a close relationship with. Their help with snow removal and mowing the last couple of years were greatly appreciated.
