Shirley Ann Kile

Shirley A. Kile, 89, of Clinton St., Homer, passed away following a brief illness on May 17, 2022 in the Guthrie Cortland Medical Center.

Shirley was born August 23, 1932 in Utica, a daughter of the late Wheeler and Harriet Saunders Watkins. She had many fond memories of childhood on the family farm and growing up in a small town. She graduated from West Winfield High School in 1951 and Morrisville School of Nursing in 1953.

She relocated to Cortland to work as a nurse at the Cortland Memorial Hospital. While in Cortland, she met John B. Kile, and they were married in 1954. After the birth of her two children, she took a position as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Elizabeth Brewster House in Homer. Here she was employed for more than 40 years up until her retirement in 2006. Her warmth enabled her to be an exceptional care giver for the elderly.

Shirley cherished time spent with her friends and family and was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her two children; Thomas A. (Wilma) Kile of Homer, Linda A. Kile of Syracuse and; two grandsons, Daniel Kile (Rose) and Jason Kile (Dieter), as well as two great granddaughters, Onaka and Paisley Kile.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1983, and a brother, John Carl Watkins, who passed in 2009.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022 from 6:00 – 7:00PM at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer. Interment in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer, will be private and at the convenience of the family.
