Sharon Ann (Merihew) Monroe

Sharon Ann Monroe, 80, passed away on May 15, 2026 following a period of declining health. 

A lifelong area resident, Sharon was born April 19, 1946, a daughter of the late Rayfield and Zona Hubbard Merihew.

She was the former owner of Dirt Cheap Services in Cortland for several years and had previously worked at Wilson Sporting Goods, Rotelcom and SUNY Cortland.  

Sharon loved spending time with her children and grandchildren; crocheting blankets, crafting, playing bingo and hosting daily card games.

Sharon is survived by her two children, Lynne M. (Donel) Day and Thomas E. (Maureen) Monroe, Jr.; and step-son, Rick Monroe; her loving grandchildren, Elizabeth (Dustin) Randall; Deirdre Monroe (Tom Chappell); Deanna Day (Trystan Dewey); Scott Day (Madison Roberts); Martin Monroe (Grace Call); Natalie Day (Zander Johnson) and Lane Day; her great-grandchildren, Sophia and Jacob Randall and Dawson Dewey. Also surviving are her three sisters, Kay Waddy; Jean Kalilec and Joan (Paul) Phillips; and her three brothers-in-laws, Jack (Susie) Monroe; Fred Monroe and Roger Monroe as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Thomas E. Monroe, Sr. in 2022; brother, Richard Merihew and sister, Dawn Bell.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026 at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 U.S. Route 11, Homer. Interment will follow in McGraw Cemetery.

Sharon’s family will receive friends and relatives on Friday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
