Richard J. Ottenschot, Homer, NY, passed away unexpectedly on May 7, 2020 at the age of 73.
A lifelong area resident, Dick was born October 18, 1946, a son of the late Leonard and Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Quinn Ottenschot.
Since 1963, Dick was involved with the operation of Ottenschot Construction Co. in Homer, where he was currently the owner and President. Dick devoted his life to the success of his business and was happiest operating one of his Caterpillar excavators or puttering in the garage.
Surviving are his six siblings, Anna Totoritis, Gulf Shores, AL; Jean (David) Hughes, Whitney Point; Rosemary Ottenschot, Cortland; John Ottenschot, Marianna, FL; Martin Ottenschot, Elmira and Thomas Ottenschot, Marathon; and an aunt, Patricia (Quinn) Collier, Lake George. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Betsy Ottenschot, Homer; Sean (Kristen) Walter, Binghamton; April (John) Thomas, Pennsylvania; Mark (Janette) Ottenschot, Utah; Kim Ottenschot (Bob Kendrick), Florida; Lisa (Matthew) Newman, South Carolina; Jennifer (Brad) Searl, Minnesota; Jeffrey (Andrea) Totoritis, Wisconsin; several great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Due to the current restrictions in place for the COVID-19, services and burial (Riverside Cemetery in Whitney Point) for Richard will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Ottenschot's memory may be directed to St. Mary's School, 61 N. Main St., Cortland, NY 13045
