Richard J. "Dick" Riley

Richard J. Riley (Dick), 82, of Homer, N.Y. passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 7, 2021.

A lifelong area resident, Dick was born December 9, 1938 to Patrick and Margaret Riley and was a 1956 graduate of Truxton High School.

Dick spent his career as a mason and proud owner of Riley Masonry Contracting for 46 years.

Dick took pride in his craftsmanship and enjoyed his contributions to the community, the countless individuals with whom he worked, and the many people he met through the years. 

Dick’s greatest pride was his family. He cherished and was cherished in return by all. As father and grandfather (Papa), Dick was the ever present #1 fan of his children and grandchildren alike. Dick was a wonderful family man and a friend to all.

Dick was a faithful member of St. Margaret’s Church, where over the years he served as an usher, Eucharist minister and was an active member of the building committee.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lana Wilson Riley, his sister June, children Brent (Mollie), Chad (Lisa), Shawn (Judi) and Dale, grandchildren Martha (CJ), Beau, Dean, Jake, Max, Caraline, Torin, Bridget and Owen, great-grandchildren, Lola and Callie, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dick came from a large family growing up on Morgan Hill in Truxton from which much love and many stories began. He was predeceased by his parents and eight siblings, Mary, Michael, Betty, Leo, Peggy, Sally, Millie, and Bill.

Calling hours will be Monday, February 15, 2021 from 5:00 - 7:00pm at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, 14 Copeland Avenue in Homer, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday at 1:00pm also at St. Margaret’s Church.

Please be advised that COVID-19 restrictions will be enforced for all services. Please wear a mask when attending, sign in upon arrival and practice social distancing at all times. A gathering to remember and celebrate Dick will be scheduled in the spring.
