Patricia A. (Smith) Barnes

Patricia A. Barnes, of Grove Street, Homer, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024 while under the care of Hospice and surrounded by her loving family at the age of 70. 

A lifelong area resident, Patty was born November 8, 1953, the daughter of the late Edward ‘Cy’ and Dorothy Woodward Smith. 

Patty retired in 2020 from Pall Trinity after 30+ years of service. 

She was a lifelong member of St. Margaret’s Church, Homer. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family.  She absolutely loved flowers, crafts and decorating her home for all of the season and holidays.  Above all she cherished spending all of the time she possibly could with her grandchildren enjoying concerts, plays, recitals, sporting events and learning about science, ecosystems and the importance of bugs. 

Surviving is her husband, Thomas J. Barnes of Homer; two children, Tammy (Matt) Small of Homer and Matthew (Jelena) Barnes of Cortland; her seven grandchildren, Olivia, Alexis, Ian, Isabelle and Aidan Small, and Tommy and Mackenzie Barnes.  She also leaves behind seven nieces, seven nephews, many cousins, great nephews and great nieces along with far too many friends to count.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, John and Michael Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024 at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer. Interment in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer will be delayed until spring.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.  

The family would especially like to give thanks to the Renzi Cancer Center at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center for their efforts in her fight and for their incredibly compassionate care.
