Marian B. Calale

Marian B. Calale, 89, formerly of Sunset Drive, Homer, passed away on July 21, 2020 in the Cortland Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident since 2015.

A lifelong area resident, Marian was born November 29, 1930 a daughter of the late Francis and Rose Gazetta Bogardo.

She graduated from Cortland High School. Then attended St. Joseph school of Nursing in Auburn, NY where she graduated as a register nurse.  Subsequently she worked in area hospitals, and later met and married Harry A. Calale of Homer, NY.

While raising 3 sons, she returned to college to attain her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Health Education.  She then went on to teach Health and Psychology at Homer Central High School.  In addition, she was one of the first in the state to teach marriage and family courses for her students. 

Marian later retired from the Homer Central School District after many years of teaching.

Surviving are her two sons, John (April) Calale and David Calale; four grandchildren, Kellen Calale, Dylan Calale, Nickie (Derek) Fredenburg and Sarah Calale; and two great granddaughters, Molly and Mila Fredenburg. Also surviving are two sisters, Stella (Jim) Cox of Fayetteville and Verna Bourgeois of West Lafayette, IN; her brother, Charlie (Barb) Bogardo of Missouri and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marian was predeceased by her husband, Harry A. Calale in 2009; her son, Paul C. Calale in 2010; her sister, Rita Menapace and a brother, Frank Bogardo.
