Linda L. Spencer, 78, formerly of Homer, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026 surrounded by family.
A lifelong area resident, Linda was born June 30, 1948, a daughter of the late Francis and Elizabeth (Hoar) Bosworth.
Linda was a 1966 graduate of Homer High School and graduated in 1968 from SUNY Morrisville with her LPN degree.
She worked from 1972 to 1989 at Cortland Memorial Hospital. In 1989, she went to work for the NYS DDSO as an LPN, then transitioned to House Director at group homes for disabled people, in McGraw and then in Truxton, retiring in 2010. Linda took great pride in her work as a nurse and helping people brought her joy.
She was the past President and member of the Retired Nurses Association, volunteered at the Cortland Hospital for many years and was the coordinator for the colostomy support group through the Education Dept. at Cortland Memorial Hospital.
Linda enjoyed traveling within the United States and Caribbean Islands. She loved cooking and spending time with family and friends. Taking day trips on the weekends around the New York State and Canada. She loved music of all kinds, both live and recorded, especially Motown, blues, and music of the 60’s and 70’s. Linda loved animals, especially the many cats she had in her lifetime.
Surviving are her two children, Jason Bosworth of Cortland; and Brenna (Jerry) Brown of Jamesville. Her children were her greatest love until her grandchildren were born. From that point on, Elizabeth and Lauren Brown, became her greatest love. Also surviving are her two sisters, Susan (David) Quinlan and Sandra Anderson; her stepmother, Connie Bosworth and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and stepchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister, Cynthia Abbott, a nephew, Michael Sipe, and best friend of 43 years, Mary Ewing.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at The Vault, 35 Main St., Cortland. A celebration of life for Linda, with live music, will follow from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
