John L. Temple, 81, of Scott, N.Y. passed away following a brief illness at his daughter’s home in Groton on March 23, 2021.
He was born May 15, 1939 in Berkshire, NY, a son of the late Albert and Viola Miller Temple. +
John faithfully served in the US Marine Corps from 1956-1960, where he received the Good Conduct Medal upon his honorable discharge.
He was employed as a welder at Crucible Steel in Syracuse for more than 30 years, retiring in 2004.
John is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Gregory) Murray of Groton; a brother, Lewis Temple of Ithaca; four grandchildren, Desiree (Steven) Phillips of Truxton; Danielle (Matthew) Allen of Cincinnatus; and Deidre Murray (Gavin Mager) of Moravia and Matthew Murray of Groton; seven great grandchildren, Lukas, Alexis, Liam, Rilee, Madison, Aiden and Destiny and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Virginia L. Temple in 2015 and by his siblings, LeRoy, Robert and Errvand Temple; Audrey Howe and George and Leo Hill.
Calling hours will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 Route 11, Home. We will be following NY State COVID-19 Guidelines. Masks must be worn at all times; social distancing practices will also be in place.
Memorial services, with Marine Corp honors, will be private and at the convenience of the family.
