Geraldine R. Compton

Geraldine R. Compton, 89, formerly of Atwood Rd., Moravia passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2021 in the Cortland Regional Nursing Facility, where she had been a resident since 2017.

Born October 7, 1931 in Preble, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Evelyn Towers Fox. Geraldine graduated Homer High School and CCBI in Syracuse. 

She was a loving and dedicated mother, who after the death of her first husband, Harold E. Compton in 1971, assumed the responsibility of raising six young boys on her own. She was a former Cub Scout leader for New Hope Pack 61, a member of the Sempronius Fire Dept. Auxiliary, an active member of the Moravia Grange for over 60 years and was an Elections Inspector for Cayuga County.

Geraldine is survived by her husband of 48 years, Roy D. Compton; her six sons, William (Cynthia) Compton of Dresserville; Charles (Linda) Compton of Fabius; Peter (Sally) Compton of Locke; Kevin (Laura) Compton of Jacksonville, NC; Michael (Renee) Compton and Gordon (Dawn) Compton; both of Preble; her brother, Leon Whalen of Sempronius; 26 grandchildren; 38 great- grandchildren; a niece and four great nieces.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Stanley Fox; a sister-in-law, Sandra Whalen and three grandchildren, Paul, Elyssa and Jason Compton.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church, 6753 Route 281, Preble, with Pastor Tim Mowers officiating.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
