Georgiane A. (Gates) Reynolds-Brackett, 89, passed away peacefully in Brandon, Florida, on April 1, 2026. She will be remembered for her kindness, laughter, and the many cherished memories she created with family and friends. Georgie’s gentle spirit and unwavering support touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born in Athens, Georgia, on November 17, 1936, Georgie was the daughter of the late Alvin H. Gates Sr. and Hallie A. Gates. Her early childhood was spent in Barneveld and Binghamton, New York, before her family settled in Cortland. A 1956 graduate of Homer Central High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Reginald “Reggie” Reynolds. Together they built a home in Lake Como, where they raised three children along with many beloved dogs, cats, and horses.
Georgie was deeply involved in her community. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and achieved the distinction of Grand Matron. She was also an avid horse owner and a dedicated 4-H leader. Georgie and Reggie owned and operated Cortland Vending Service before relocating to Sarasota, Florida, in 1979.
In Sarasota, Georgie established a condominium cleaning service and Reg provided maintenance services. After retirement, they moved to Apollo Beach, Florida, where they became active members of their community. Following Reggie’s passing, Georgie married William Brackett. Together they shared 10 joyful years filled with dancing twice a week and leading an exercise class three times a week at the Caribbean Isles community center.
Georgie was predeceased by her husbands, Reginald Reynolds and William Brackett; son, Stephen Reynolds; grandson, Chad Reynolds; granddaughter, Danyell Reynolds; and siblings, Joan Grogan, Robert Gates, and Alvin Gates Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Christine (Doug) Vollmer, Sr. and Robbin (Phil) Cochran; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Glenwood Cemetery in Homer at 11:30 a.m. on July 8, 2026.
A celebration of life and luncheon will follow at Summerhill Baptist Church, 525 Lake Como Road.
