Evelyn L. Hulbert

Evelyn L. Hulbert, 86, a resident of the Elizabeth Brewster House, Homer, and formerly of Cortland, passed away while under the care of Hospice and her loving daughter on December 25, 2019.

A lifelong area resident, she was born June 11, 1933, a daughter of the late Clarence S. and A. Beth Secord Homer.

Evelyn was self-employed for many years as a house cleaner, retiring at the age of 82. Over the years, she developed many lasting relationships with the families she worked for.

Her passions were gardening and volunteering. Nothing made her happier than digging in the dirt, and pulling weeds. She volunteered countless hours at the Cortland Care Center and Grace Christian Fellowship.

Surviving is her daughter, Billi Carol (John) Gizzi of Homer; her sister, Marilyn Mowry; brother, Kenneth Homer; and sisters-in-law, Caroline Anderson and Margaret Sackett. She was a loving, devoted and wonderful grandmother to her two grandchildren, Angela and Christopher Gizzi.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Carl L. Hulbert on February 27, 2019; and two sons, Shel and Scott Hulbert.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Grace Christian Fellowship, 1250 Fisher Ave., Cortland, NY. 

Evelyn’s family would like to thank Dr. Matthew Noble, the staff at the Elizabeth Brewster House and her personal care aides for the wonderful care they provided over the past several years.
