Edward Michaels Obituary

Edward J Michaels of Homer, NY passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at the age of 92.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Irene; parents, Charles and Antoinette; brother, Zeno; and daughter, Michele.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Christy Michaels of Homer, NY; Matthew and Jerilyn Michaels of St. Francis, MN and four grandchildren, Kyle, Katelyn (husband Patrick Sharkey), Kathryn, and Kurt.

After high school, Ed was a contestant for the Olympic Water Polo Team and later joined the Navy as an electronics technician at the New London, CT submarine base, where he earned a NROTC scholarship to Penn State University. After college graduation and completion of several years as a Midshipman, he joined IBM as an Electrical Engineer and worked on notable programs such as the B-52 bomber in Seattle, WA.

He eventually retired in 1984 from IBM Owego, NY with over 25 years of service. While in Seattle, he met and married his wife, Irene. Ed especially enjoyed the outdoors, including field archery, fishing, hunting, skiing, and landscape painting, and was especially proud of his Beagle Field Trial Champion, Rene’s Sparkle.

During retirement Ed pursued interests in arts of painting and sculpture at SUNY Binghamton. This led him to waterfowl carving, the replicas of which he was especially quite pleased. For most of his life he kept physically active with a routine of swimming two miles a week and low impact aerobics.

At Ed’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral service.
