G. Richard ‘Dick’ Henry, of Hickory Park Rd., Cortland, passed away while under the care of his loving family on his 100th birthday.
A lifelong area resident, Dick was born in Truxton on June 24, 1926, a son of the late Helen Comerford Henry.
He was honorably discharged in 1946 from the U.S. Navy, faithfully serving during World War II.
He was a lifelong communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Truxton, and an 80-year member of the American Legion Post 465 in Homer.
Dick was a hard worker. He spent his career in the construction industry, working for CN Flagg, owning and operating Over & Under Piping, M.A. Bongiovanni and finally retiring in his 80’s from Adhan Piping.
Surviving are his seven children, Michael (Diane) Henry of Cortland; Michelle (Joe) Hoffmann of Burlington Flats; David Henry of LaFayette; Mary Ann (Peter) DeCastro of Durham, NC; Chris (Sue) Henry of Cortland; Lisa Austin of Cortland and Beth Henry of Mechanicsburg, PA; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, three great-great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Bette Lou Beerman Henry in 2018 and by a brother, Phillip Henry.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at St. Patrick’s Church, 3656 Route 13, Truxton, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Joseph Phillips. Interment, with Navy honors, will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Truxton.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 U.S. Route 11, Homer.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Henry’s name are asked to consider the Homer American Legion Post 465, 63 South Main St., Homer, NY 13077 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
