C. Michael Norris, 92, died on Thursday, Aug. 16, at home surrounded by his family.
He was a legendary football coach and physical education teacher at Homer High School, where he taught for 33 years. His players called him "Iron Mike," but those who knew him saw a softer side. He was a caring, loving father to his eight children, whether teaching them to ski, to drive a car or just live life well.
Mike was an active outdoorsman, who counted cross-country skiing, turkey hunting and golf among his enthusiasms.
He and his wife Pat met as students at Syracuse University, and after more than 72 years of marriage, were still in love. In addition to Pat, Mike is survived by his two sisters, eight children and their spouses, 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11 a.m., at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Homer, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Paul J. Alciati.
The family will receive friends and relatives in the basement of St. Margaret Church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Lime Hollow Nature Center, 388 McLean Rd., Cortland, NY 13045.
